Papiere Bitte! Evils of Real ID
It's in the news again. Another step toward the brave new world. It is the REAL ID card and it is creepy. Virtually uncovered in the mainstream media, the Senate will be voting on another REAL ID Bill and its time to let them know that we don't want every facet of our personal lives in one centrally located government database. REAL ID as with many unconstitutional power grabs mad during the Bush Administration, has been touted as a way to prevent terrorism. Its funny that we are told that we need to fight the terrorists to defend our freedom while at the same time the people who are supposed to be defending our freedoms are tearing up the bill of rights. The REAL ID card would require at minimum your name, birth date, sex, ID number, a digital photograph, address, and a "common machine-readable technology" most likely RFID. Others have speculated that this card could be used to store medical, social security, financial and and marketing information. These cards may need to be shown when buying certain items at the store or when you are pulled over for speeding. You will also need it to drive, fly or buy a house, PAPERS PLEASE! I'm not one to jump to wild religious conclusions but even the Biblical mark of the beast has been compared to the REAL ID card by some.
Revelation 13:16-17
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
This holds a sobering reality because the government would be requiring us to have the ID, we would need it to buy and sell homes airline tickets and possibly other items, and RFID technology has been tested in the form of an under skin capsule embedded under the wrist.
Armageddon doomsday theories aside, the inherent problem with this is that not only would every government official have access to all of your information but this data would also be a gold mine of data if one of these officials sold the information to marketers. Do you really want to risk having all of your personal information available to anyone who was willing to pay for it? We must stand up to this legislation, now is pretty much our last chance, the bill, if passed could go into effect in May. At that point not only would all your info be in a government database but with the recent wiretapping bill it could be combined with audio and public video surveillance. This would be an awful and new low state of affairs for the new American police state. This is what presidential candidate and congressman Ron Paul had to say about REAL ID on his website...
"The US House of Representatives passed a spending bill last week that contains provisions establishing a national ID card, and the Senate is poised to approve the measure in the next few days. This week marks the American public’s last chance to convince their Senators they don’t want to live in a nation that demands papers from its citizens as they go about their lives.
Absent a political miracle in the Senate, within two years every American will need a conforming national ID card to participate in ordinary activities. This REAL ID Act establishes a massive, centrally-coordinated database of highly personal information about American citizens: at a minimum their name, date of birth, place of residence, Social Security number, and physical characteristics. The legislation also grants open-ended authority to the Secretary of Homeland Security to require biometric information on IDs in the future. This means your harmless looking driver’s license could contain a retina scan, fingerprints, DNA information, or radio frequency technology.
Think this sounds far fetched? Read the REAL ID Act, HR 418, for yourself. Its text is available on the Library of Congress website. A careful reading also reveals that states will be required to participate in the “Drivers License Agreement,” which was crafted by DMV lobbyists years ago. This agreement creates a massive database of sensitive information on American citizens that can be shared with Canada and Mexico!
Terrorism is the excuse given for virtually every new power grab by the federal government, and the national ID is no exception. But federal agencies have tried to create a national ID for years, long before the 9-11 attacks. In fact, a 1996 bill sought to do exactly what the REAL ID Act does: transform state drivers’ licenses into de facto national ID cards. At the time, Congress was flooded with calls by angry constituents and the bill ultimately died.
Proponents of the REAL ID Act continue to make the preposterous claim that the bill does not establish a national ID card. This is dangerous and insulting nonsense. Let’s get the facts straight: The REAL ID Act transforms state motor vehicle departments into agents of the federal government. Nationalizing standards for driver's licenses and birth certificates in a federal bill creates a national ID system, pure and simple. Having the name of your particular state on the ID is meaningless window dressing.
Federally imposed standards for drivers' license and birth certificates make a mockery of federalism and the 10th amendment. While states technically are not forced to accept the federal standards, any refusal to comply would mean their residents could not get a job, receive Social Security, or travel by plane. So rather than imposing a direct mandate on the states, the federal government is blackmailing them into complying with federal dictates.
One overriding point has been forgotten: Criminals don’t obey laws! As with gun control, national ID cards will only affect law-abiding citizens. Do we really believe a terrorist bent on murder is going to dutifully obtain a federal ID card? Do we believe that people who openly flout our immigration laws will nonetheless respect our ID requirements? Any ID card can be forged; any federal agency or state DMV is susceptible to corruption. Criminals can and will obtain national ID cards, or operate without them. National ID cards will be used to track the law-abiding masses, not criminals."
Please contact your congressmen and ask them why they decided it was ok for the government to track all of your personal information.

SELLOUT BASTARDS!
What do you know! A guy goes away for a couple days and returns to find that The Democratic Party is nothing but a shiny new rubber stamp for the Bush Disaster. I can't say that I had much faith in the Democratic party to begin with but I didn't think that would 100% wuss out on this one. They really shit the bed on this and I think its time we called them out on it. Several Democrats have joined with the Republicans to reissue and strengthen the NSA wiretapping bill. Sweet. Being big on the issue of privacy, I see this huge powergrab by the Administration as a slap in the face to the American people and the fact that the Democrats rolled over on is a betrayal of the trust of their voters. Although the Democratic Presidential candidates made the right choice 16 democratic senators and 41 democratic members of the house completely sold out. So why did these democrats sell out? I think the answer may lie in the fact the President Bush threatened to keep congress in session over their summer vacation if they didn't cooperate. Thats right you heard me right I believe that these congress men and women care more about their vacation than your rights. As this constitutional crisis comes to a head we can see who is willing to stand and fight for our rights and who would rather go on vacation. So much for the Democratic opposition as Orwellian as it may seem there are no longer a democratic party and a republican party just The Party and Big Brother IS watching...

Death for Sale!
Proving for the millionth time, that American foreign policy is 100% stupid, news came out today about a huge arms deal. When you hear the words arms dealer, it generally congers up images of some shady yet slick dude with a ridiculous gold watch, arriving on a plane full of guns. He steps off of the plane strokes his greasy mustache and opens the plane's cargo hold so his customer can inspect the newly arrived instruments of death. He is paid for the high quality arms he has brought and turns to go home, with no remorse for what those weapons may do to people at the hands of his customer. Most people would think, hey that guy is the bottom rung of society, he doesn't care how many die as long as he turns a quick buck. It may surprise you o know that that remorseless slimeball's name is Sam, Uncle Sam. Between 1998 and 2005 the United States government sold $109 billion dollars in weapons to other countries, and that's just what's on the books. 109 BILLION dollars! Is it just me or is that crazy. That officially makes Uncle Sam the world largest arms dealer. In that time period the UK was a distant second at 39 Billion. These facts have com to light today after an announcement today that we will be upping the ante. We will be increasing arms shipments to Israel to the tune of 30 billion dollars over the next 5 years and to make it even better we will also be sending 20 billion dollars worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia, a country who has been roundly criticized by Amnesty International as one of the top human rights violators. Let me say that again, we are sending 20 billion dollars in weapons to one of the world's worst human rights violators. What is wrong with us? These weapons are not just guns and bullets either, they are missiles, helicopter gunships, and fighter planes. I seem to remember when the CIA supplied training and weapons to another group in the middle east. They were fighting our sworn enemies the Soviets in Afghanistan. They were the Taliban, including Osama Bin Laden. We all know where that go us. It seems that we have done this more than once with horrible blow back. Remember when Saddam Hussein gassed the Kurds. I'll be damned if we didn't provide him with those weapons. I don't understand how the politicians in Washington cant see that this is policy of exporting death is a downright stupid and disastrous idea. If you ask me its because they owe favors to weapons makers. In the end it is all about money, it always is. Please contact your congressmen and let them know that you will not tolerate this deadly policy.

War plans 7 countries, 5 years
Holy Scary %$! Batman. The video below was part of the "Democracy Now" podcast from back on March 2nd of this year. It was just brought to my attention and feel that I must repost it with some of my own commentary. Watch the video see you after the jump...
...change your drawers then come back... This video from a highly credible source, Gen. Clark, Shows us the great evils of the Neo-Con war machine. Can anyone say NAZI's. This plan is in effect a drafted plan of how to pick a fight to start WWIII. Post 9/11 Bush and his cronies decided that they wanted to take out 7 countries in 5 years. Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and finally Iran. I'm not usually one to jump to conspiracy theories or too call the republicans NAZI's but COME ON. I guess the silver lining to the catastrophe in Iraq is that it stopped these nuts from trying to blitzkrieg the Muslim World. Could you imagine where we would be now? At war with Iran? This kind of thing not only makes me INCREDIBLY mad it shows how we NEED to make a change. We need to stand up, get off the couch and start caring for a change. As the Bush administration pushes for action on Iran even as we speak we must remain ever vigilant and stop these war mongers, murderers and Imperialists from carrying out their final solution. Welcome to ANSWR
The first thing I will be doing is laying out a manifesto of what this blog is going to be about. The aim of ANSWR is to bring about discussion mainly among college students who want change for America. ANSWR is for those who no longer want politics as usual in Washington. For too long we have seen corporate money and influence steer our country to the brink of destruction. We have seen corporate owned media distort facts and rubber stamp illegal wars to fatten their bottom lines. We have seen our country attacked, and then had that attack turned around as a pretext for setting flame to the constitution. I am starting this blog because I believe that we are at a tipping point and that the future of our country lies in our hands. The last few years have proven that greed in Washington is ruining America, that the Aristocracy in power cares more for their millions than for the well being of the people they serve. It is time to bring this time to an end.
Why Should You Care?
As college students we should take great interest in the political events of today because they will effect our lives most acutely, and secondarily the lives of our children. Those in power currently will be gone before the lasting effects of their policies take effect. We must speak out now to make a real lasting difference.
Is this a Left Wing blog?
Personally, my political views lie somewhere between libertarianism and democratic-socialism, I myself am a bit left of center and this blog will probably reflect this but I do welcome educated view from the center and the right.
What will this blog contain?
This blog will have posts of political news, opinion, links and video related to the cause of social and political change. I will try my best to find opportunities for you to get involved. We can sit on our computers and write about our goals but it takes some real world action so make a true difference.
